TATTOO FAQS
retGENERAL QUESTIONS
(FAQS)
Are Tattoos Safe?
As long as you go to a reputable artist that is following all recommended safety precautions, getting a tattoo is perfectly safe. Make sure you’re fully honest about any medical conditions.
How Much Is It Going to Cost?
When it comes to tattoos, our objective is to provide quality. Price is base on complexity and size. If you are working with a budget, bring that to your artists attention, so we can achieve your ideal tattoo.
Is It OK to Get a Tattoo if I’m Sick?
NO! Getting a tattoo when your immune system isn’t at 100% isn’t a good idea. You’re going to need your strength and your white blood cells to heal your tattoo, something your body won’t be able to do if it’s already doing battle against virus and bacteria. Not to mention the fact that it’s very inconsiderate to bring your illness into the tattoo studio and risk passing the germs onto others, particularly your artist. If you have an appointment, call and reschedule for when you’re feeling well again.
Should I Tip My Tattoo Artist?
Tipping is a really nice gesture. But, there are no real solid ground rules for tipping.
What Is the Best Time of Year to Get a Tattoo?
Although you can get a tattoo any time of the year, your skin gets a lot more abuse during the summer with swimming, tanning, and just being exposed to the elements more. Winter time is really the best season to get a tattoo.
Where on my body should I get a tattoo?
This is a decision that only YOU can make. I can suggest placement of your tattoo because of its size or shape, but it is completely your decision.
Do I have to come into the shop to make an appointment?
Appointments are made only after an initial consultation. In this consultation i will interview you and decide if your idea is something i can do well and if we are a good match for each other. I do require an retainer to make an appointment. A $100 deposit secures the appointment time and it goes towards the final price of tattoo. Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Where Can I Find Pictures of Tattoos?
If you’re getting a tattoo, especially as an expression of your individuality, why would you want a tattoo just like someone else’s? Instead, find other pictures of what you’re looking for and have your artist draw up a custom design for you. Example: If you are wanting a tattoo of a penguin standing on a glacier, find real photos of penguins and glaciers. If you want a tattoo of a blue rose wrapped around a cross, find pictures of real roses and crosses that you like. If the pictures don’t show exactly what you want, just take them to your artist to use them as guidelines and tell them what changes you want to be made to the original pictures. A real artist will welcome the challenge of a custom piece.
Is Tanning OK When You Have Tattoos?
It might be really tempting to get some rays during the summer months or hit up the tanning salon, but before you ruin your tattoo, please read about tattoos and tanning.
I Just Got a New Tattoo on My Leg – Can I Shave?
It will take some time for your skin to heal enough for you to shave again and it can vary from person to person.
PLANNING AND PREPARATIoN
(FAQS)
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TATTOO SESSION?
Make sure you are well rested, well hydrated, and have eaten recently. Aside from that, take a shower, charge your phone or tablet up to full, wear clothing that allows easy access to tattoo location.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY TATTOO SESSION?
It’s more important to be comfortable than to be fashionable. Looser is better than tighter, and keep in mind you want to be able to cover up certain places that might show, depending on where you’re getting your tattoo.
WHAT ARE SOME THINGS I MAY NOT THINK OF BEFORE I COME IN?
- Take a shower
- Don’t bring your kids. No really, don’t bring them.
- Bring all of the necessary documentation ( Including state issued ID )
- eat before your appointment. blood sugar & pain management are very much related, and should be considered.
- If you’re diabetic, plan for a possible crash
WHEN SHOULD I NOT GET TATTOOED?
You should NOT get tattooed when you are:
- Drunk
- High
- Pregnant
- Breast feeding
- Pre-Surgery
- Post-Surgery
- When you don’t know what you want
- When you can’t afford it
- When you’re sunburned
- When you haven’t showered
- Do not bring minors
- If you don’t have an ID
- Being pressured into it
WILL IT HURT?
WHAT IS THE PAIN LEVEL FOR A TATTOO?
A tattoo is probably a 3/10. The best comparison would be to getting a scratch on a sunburn or to having someone draw on you with a ball-point pen on a sunburn. It doesn’t feel good, but it’s more of an intermittent irritation than a constant pain. Remember, a tattoo has more in common with an abrasion than it does with a hypodermic needle shot from the doctor.
CARING FOR A TATTOO
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL AFTER A TATTOO/PIERCING?
The majority of your new tattoos healing process will be done within the first two weeks. However, the skin is still working to heal and rejuvenate and you need to plan on a 4-6 weeks for your skin to be back to its previous state.
WHY DO TATTOOS START TO ITCH WHILE HEALING?
As the skin rejuvenates itself, usually about a week after the tattoo was done, the itch sets in. This is 100% normal. Good moisturizers will help immensely with this but DO NOT SCRATCH IT!
